What is the Oxford Method?

Above: The Oxford Method of foccused attention to individual problems can also be applied to children.

Many students at Oxford University are amused and confused at first by tutorials. They are asked to present their week's work in the form of an essay which is read out in the rooms of their college tutor. It is then gone into in some detail and probing questions are asked to ascertain the depth and breadth of the student's understanding of the subject.

For most people, such a learning experience is very stressful but extremely valuable as the personal difficulties of the student are gone into in great detail and much progress is made. The tutor is supportive, constructive and highly focussed on individual needs.

In Hong Kong, this approach is usually totally absent from learning. Mass education, even at international schools, comprises classroom experiences, group work, work sheets, textbooks and individual problems are rarely gone into.

At Oxford Tutors, the learning difficulties and problem areas of the student are quickly assessed by experienced and sympathetic staff and a clear way forward prescribed.

We do not offer miracle cures, quick fixes or mindless cramming.

These measures usually produce confusion and do not enable students to deal with the many possible examination questions which may arise. Our aim is to produce a better-prepared student who can cope with anything the examiners may confront them with.

We prescribe a course of study which may have surprising and innovative elements for self-development.
.
We do not crowd our students into stuffy, noisy cubicles in Central.

Instead we mainly offer home visits, office tutorials or teach wherever the student feels comfortable. We liaise strongly with parents.

ALL our tutors are Oxford graduates or are ascertained by us to be of similar academic standing.

Our fees are roughly the same as the crammers of Central and elsewhere but our service is long-lasting and proficient.

It offers substantially greater value for money.
